Leadership and strategy

  •  Narrative: Develop an annual narrative structure to communicate the urgent need to end hunger and describe the work of WFP to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Identify the themes and stories that will constitute the narrative. This includes participating in the editorial process of the Communications Division, to understand the news agenda and creating a plan, establishing the best timing and sequencing of stories.
  • · Team lead: Supervise a team developing and marketing content; define Terms of Reference (TORs), establish priorities and work plans, monitor progress, and provide coaching, training and guidance to ensure appropriate skills and capabilities development and enable high performance and motivation. Ensure vendors have clear work plans and deliverables and are monitored appropriately.

    · Strategy: Develop and execute the content strategy and master plan, outlining milestones, staffing and funding needs, based upon a careful assessment of needs and opportunities. This includes the definition of content standards and processes to support the execution of the overall Communications strategy.

  • Content creation: Manage the process of content gathering, curation and creation for planned proactive content across global and HQ audiences to create a consistent and coherent drum beat. Ensure content is accurate and fact-checked, to the high standards set but also connecting and engaging with audiences, and tailored to different marketing channels. Contribute to the creation of original and curated content that brings to life the work of WFP in formats, on channels and in styles that resonate with key audiences. Work closely with the Division’s Communication Officers, Graphic Design and Publishing Unit, Video Unit and Photo Unit to ensure generation of stories, videos and images that are consistent with the Communications Strategy.

Communications & Digital Strategist for Relief International in Washington, DC

Manage daily digital operations on social media and on the Relief International website

  • Lead and execute all digital communications: including social media, fundraising appeals, staff newsletter and CMS of the Relief International website.
  • Design and create visually appealing collateral, such as annual reports, donor communications, branding materials and other items using the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Create basic graphics and manage Relief International’s photo library.

  • To manage the overall development and smooth running of OI’s main website and sub-sites from an editorial, creative and technical point of view. Director of Global Communications for Helen Keller International in New York, New York

Working to raise awareness of the global health issues that HKI addresses, and to increase and manage the organization's visibility across a range of audiences, including private sector donors, the Director is responsible for public relations media outreach, print and digital communications, website content, design, and functionality, internal and external publications, and promotional events and activities. The position also ensures congruity of messaging and branding across HKI's wide range of domestic and global external outreach and program activities.

This position reports to and will work closely with the Vice President of External Relations and the leaders and staff of the other department units, as well as with senior staff and program colleagues around the world. The position directly manages important vendor relationships, and one professional level employee, who may supervise seasonal or temporary staff, interns and/or volunteer. In addition, the Director co-supervises and integrates the work of several professional level communications staff who are assigned to program teams. The External Relations department and HKI as a whole are structured in such a way that the work of each unit supports and reinforces the work of every other unit. Regular communication and a spirit of teamwork among colleagues, both hierarchically and laterally are essential to make this structure thrive.

Communications Manager for Cuso International in Calabar, Nigeria

Cuso International is currently implementing a five-year project titled, Youth Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Access and Development Project (YouLead). Funded by Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada, YouLead supports the creation of youth-led enterprises and employment for young women and men in the natural resource sector in Cross River State, Nigeria. Cuso International and implementing partners are developing a youth-driven approach to support sustainable economic activities in key sectors (forestry, agriculture, aquaculture and eco-tourism) identified by the CRS government and other stakeholders. The project is also strengthening capacity of government at State and LGA levels, youth-serving civil society organizations, training organizations, and financial institutions to develop and implement a gender-responsive NRM 'green jobs/green economy' policy framework as the basis of increasing employment, self-employment and secured livelihoods for young women and men in the natural resource sectors.

Reporting to the Project Team Leader, the Communications Manager will be the Head of the Communications unit within the YouLead Project at Cuso International in Nigeria, and supervise/build the capacity of the Communications Officer in carrying out work related functions and to implement communications and marketing strategy that will support the success of the project and provide timely and relevant information to project stakeholders with support and guidance from the Director of Communications based at the Cuso International HQ.
