Key Requirements                                                                            

  • Diploma or Degree in Communication, Journalism or equivalent.

  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, including a flair for writing and communication, as well as sharp-eyed editing of diverse styles of writing.

  • Minimum 7 - 10 years in a communication role - including demonstrated experience of strategic organizational communications and public outreach strategies and working with international media.

  • Able to translate complex knowledge and concepts into creative multi-media, for diverse audiences, with clear advocacy objectives.

  • Has a portfolio and demonstrated work experience with journalists and the media, including an active network of media contacts.

  • Understanding of international civil society, human rights and development issues, and good socio-political analysis skills.

  • Experience and passion for digital communications - social media, graphic design, video production, etc.

Rwanda Compliance & Communications Associate for One Acre Fund in Kigali, Rwanda

We are looking for a highly capable project manager with proven experience in stakeholder management and grant funding compliance.

Rwanda will be reducing and eventually eliminating seed imports in the near future and is, therefore, investing heavily in domestic seed production. One Acre Fund is excited to be part of this initiative and is partnering with three Rwandan Seed Production Companies, an international seed company, and the Rwandan government to quickly scale up domestic production of hybrid maize varieties through forming a consortium of seed players. This program has the potential to provide hybrid seed access to one million farmers and generate tens of millions of dollars of impact via increased harvest for Rwandan farm households. 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Biannual partnership meetings for core partnership

  • Organizing a farm visitor calendar for key stakeholders

  • Responsible for overall coordination and management of project activities implemented by partners in support of the project objectives

  • Work closely with the consortium members and sub-grantee project coordinators for day to day implementation of the project activities and implementation modalities.

  • Ensure activities are implemented according to work-plans and budgets and are executed in line with donor requirements and compliance regulations

  • Coordinate/facilitate and manage the day-to-day implementation of the Seed project

  • Implement our social media content plan and coordinate all our social media platforms. Be the focal point for campaigning on social media.

  • Coordinate segmented email campaigns, managing newsletter lists, drafting campaign content, and developing and monitoring engagements.

  • Utilize Google Analytics and similar stats to track our digital traffic and to support our Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning projects with statistics from our digital engagement as well as influencing our content strategies.

  • Produce and/or assist with the development of publications and other printed materials, hereunder coordinating with external contractors.

  • Assist with our communications activities at the UN when needed, hereunder coordinating the live streaming of side events, interviewing activists, packaging of event materials and similar.

  • Be the point of contact for our Communicators Network, ensuring that the network is nurtured, trained and used.

The Senior Media Officer leads ODI’s media engagement and is responsible for ensuring that our evidence and ideas reach wide, diverse and influential audiences. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled media professional with a strong news sense, experience of working on both proactive and reactive media, and an understanding of the broader current affairs landscape to grow our global coverage. Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead ODI’s media work, including the formulation, delivery and evaluation of ODI’s media strategy and plans.

  • Strengthen ODI’s engagement with key media outlets and correspondents in the UK, Europe and globally to increase media reach and coverage.

  • Work with ODI research and communications colleagues to design and deliver proactive media plans for ODI outputs and activites (notably publications and events), including drafting press releases, developing key messages and pitching these to media.

  • Develop compelling media content for both short news cycles as well as documentaries and feature pieces.

  • Occasional travel to developing countries with journalists to profile our research work.

  • Work with communications colleagues to deliver media messages on a range of platforms, including multimedia (video, photography and audio).

  • Work with the Communications Assistant to ensure accurate, up-to-date logging of all media coverage, providing statistics on coverage and uptake. Ensure that the media section of the ODI website, newsletters and other online channels are kept up-to-date.
